CHINO COAT / LOOP BACK JERSEY

Every garment leaves offcuts behind. UpcycleLino shreds them back to fibre and re-spins them into yarn. This season, that yarn becomes a chino coat, a loopback sweatshirt, a half-zip hoodie and sweatpants, each made with the skills of its own region.

Made to be worn for years, in any season, in any era, by anyone. The coat is a light layer in spring and autumn, with more underneath in winter. The sweats work alone or under the coat. Each piece changes its role with the season, so the set can be worn through the whole year. We did not split the shapes by gender, and worked out proportions and silhouettes that hold up on anyone. Because the yarn is worked by hand from the start, we designed them to be worn for years, regardless of trends. The range of styling is kept wide, from layering to pairing with pieces you already own.

MATERIAL

Chino

Chino Fabric

Developed with a mill in Ibara, Okayama, with over 100 years of history. The warp is 20-count unbleached cotton; the weft is 9-count unbleached cotton-linen yarn, re-spun from offcuts. Woven as a left-hand twill, it shows a clear diagonal and natural slubs. Chino is usually pure cotton; the linen blend adds a vintage hand and a deep, natural ecru.

DESIGN

Chino Bal Collar Coat

Made from a chino with a clearly raised twill line, to be worn as a light layer in spring and autumn and with more underneath in winter. Based on a stand-collar coat, with patch pockets taken from workwear. Designed on the premise that it will be worn for years, regardless of trends.

MATERIAL

Loop Back Jersey

Loopback jersey knitted in Kishu, Wakayama. Face: 27-count single yarn. Middle: 30-count yarn re-spun from offcuts. Back: 8-count cotton. Re-spun fibre knits unevenly, so fine cotton is blended in. That slubby yarn gives the vintage character.

TOP GREY is re-spun from offcuts of many colours, unlike the KINARI and white of past seasons. The shade depends on what we collect, and no lot can be repeated. Every piece differs slightly: that is upcycling.

DESIGN

Loop Back Jersey Half Zip Hoodie

Made from the same jersey, in a shape that changes with the seasons and lasts. The front zip changes the look depending on how far it is open and what is worn underneath. The pockets leave the overlock stitching exposed, so the making itself becomes part of the design.

Loop Back Jersey Sweat Shirt

Made from a loopback jersey whose uneven yarn gives it a vintage character. Cut with room in the body and the shoulder seams moved to the back, so the line runs unbroken under the neck, it works alone or under the coat. We worked out proportions that suit anyone, regardless of gender.

Loop Back Jersey Sweat Pants

Made from the same jersey, with proportions that work regardless of gender. The waist is adjustable with elastic and a drawcord, and the knee is cut slimmer than a conventional sweatpant, keeping the ease while looking composed. Wide enough in its pairings to sit with any top or any piece you already own.
